Life in London

Posted by Kate Fashion TrendsFashion NewsStyle Inspiration

I recently arrived back from London, where I spent some time looking for lovely new Floozy goodies.

My professional shopping necessitated firstly a trip to Top Drawer at Olympia, a fabulous trade event, with over 600 suppliers and Designers exhibiting, and also a trip to London Fashion Week, held at Somerset House, this year celebrating 25 years of British fashion.
LFW is always one of the highlights of my trip to the UK, not just because of the immense wealth of design talent on display from both emerging and established labels, but also because it's a great place to people watch, it's always fun to spot a few celebs from the glossies and this year I spied Agyness Dean, Alexa Chung and Brix Smith Start amongst the “Beautiful People Crowd”!

But enough of my over-excited stories of star spotting, I suspect you will be far more interested to know what trends were on the catwalk for the northern hemisphere Spring/ Summer 2010 collections. Well it seems that fashion's love affair with romance continues as lace, sheer gauzy fabrics and ruffles were prominent in many shows. Don't be afraid to invest in nautical themed pieces for this summer, for fear of a passing fashion whim, wide leg sailor pants, stripes and blazers were all part of Margaret Howell's understated and relaxed collection for next summer, so hopefully, (as it's one of my favourite looks), we'll also see the trend continue here in NZ. colour and print also abounded, with a gorgeous collection from Mary Katrantzou.

One of the main themes I noticed on my travels was a continued awareness in ethical, fair trade and sustainable fashion. At Top Drawer there was a huge increase in exhibitors and Designers who were producing recyclable and reusable shopping bags, remember that in the UK many retailers have been charging customers for plastic shopping bags for a while now, a practice also being adopted here. Another ethical fashion label worth checking out is this fabulous footwear designer Beyond Skin.
Stay tuned to the Floozy blog, as I hope to be doing our bit and bringing you some great new shopping bags very soon, so you can say “no” to plastic bags!

About Kate

I'd always been a serious shopaholic. In a previous life I was Cabin Crew, (for The World's Favourite Airline), giving me an opportunity to shop on a global scale, from the souk's in Istanbul to "Bloomingdales" in New York, I was always on the quest for the perfect fashion accessory or must have item!!

Floozy was created in 2007, a fantastic online store where one can purchase all manner of delightful treats and trinkets, from a selection of fabulous International Designers, including, Susse Collection, Pink Lining, Nicole Van Dyke and Lola Rose.
