A Question of Style.

Posted by Kate Style Inspiration
Tamsin Marshall

This week Floozy interviews Tamsin Marshall, editor and founder of Beautygoss.com, who shares her style secrets and inspiration.

How would you describe your personal style.

A little bit rock n roll – but on the nice side… ladylike but not prissy.

What do you typically wear to work?

I work from home so my wardrobe is really varied, plus I have a four month old daughter so some days I dress very casual – leggings or trackies and a t-shirt and other days if I have meetings I’ll wear anything from jeans, a nice top to a dress. I am restricted by what I wear as I’m still breastfeeding.

How do you dress for your body type?

At the moment I have the biggest boobs I have ever had in my life and it has been quite an eye opening experience in terms of dressing. I wear singlets with buttons down the front under tees or hoodies for ‘easy access’. I can’t wear baggy tops as they make me look bigger than I am so fitted work better. I also have a great tunic style dress that looked awesome when I was more flat chested but now makes me look big!

Do you favour High St or Designer fashion?

Both. You can get some fantastic bargains at high st stores, plus it seems ridiculous to spend a fortune on basics when you can get them for a fraction of the price. But then you also can’t beat a well designed and made jacket, dress or trousers. I really like to mix it up.

What’s your favourite High St store?

I like Country Road, Witchery and Glassons. Oh and Supre sometimes although I’m definitely starting to get a bit old for that shop.

Who is your favourite New Zealand Designer?

I couldn’t possibly name just one! Juliette Hogan does gorgeous clothes, and Kathryn Wilson is the best shoe designer! I also like Karen Walker and Jaimie.

 And your favourite International label?

Hard to pick one! I like Alexander Wang, Nicolas Ghesquiere from Balenciaga, Rick Owens. I think Marc Jacobs is clever – what he does at Louis Vuitton looks so different from his Marc by Marc Jacobs collections.

What has been your biggest fashion indulgence?

Probably my wedding dress – that is the most expensive item I’ve had so far. It was made by Jane Yeh and I would still pick it today (phew).

What’s the oldest item in your wardrobe that you still wear on a regular basis?

It’s only a couple of years old, but I still wear it a lot – it’s a leather bomber from Glassons that on a cost per wear basis is doing pretty good now!

Can you share a tip that’s sure to update a girls wardrobe for the upcoming Spring/Summer 09/10 trends?

It’s time to update your denim and get Boyfriend jeans – the best are vintage Levi 501s or 555s or an American brand called Elliot. Sass and Bide do a pair and so do Jeans West or Just Jeans… wear with a plain grey or white tee and flats or heels!

What is your never-fail, quick three minute beauty routine?

Everything I do at the moment is quick, and I’m often doing two things at once. But I can’t live without concealor under the eyes, blush, a fine line of black eyeshadow dotted along my lashline and mascara. I put concealor on the lids as well as underneath the eye too.

If someone gave you $100 to spend on accessories what would you buy?

Lots of bangles.

What’s your favourite item from the Floozy collection?

The Coco clutch/wallet – totally biased – we named our daughter Coco.

What handbag are you carrying today?

A Marc by Marc Jacobs tote that is big enough to carry nappies etc as well as my things.

If you could own any designer handbag, money no object, vintage or modern, what would it be?

Right now the bag I am totally after is the Coco tote by Alexander Wang – black leather with studs on the bottom. It is so cool but incredibly hard to find, I’ve been watching out for it since seeing it on bagsnob.com. It doesn’t help that one of the Olsen twins was spotted wearing it and now it’s very sought after.

About Kate

I'd always been a serious shopaholic. In a previous life I was Cabin Crew, (for The World's Favourite Airline), giving me an opportunity to shop on a global scale, from the souk's in Istanbul to "Bloomingdales" in New York, I was always on the quest for the perfect fashion accessory or must have item!!

Floozy was created in 2007, a fantastic online store where one can purchase all manner of delightful treats and trinkets, from a selection of fabulous International Designers, including, Susse Collection, Pink Lining, Nicole Van Dyke and Lola Rose.
